This guide covers everything you can do on the voting site: registering, nominating, voting, and keeping your details up to date. You can use it on your phone or a computer.
Register once
You register once. The same account works for every election: the general election, your Small Christian Community (SCC) election, and the elections of any group you belong to.
When: registration is open during the general election's registration period. If you missed it, see Missed registration? below.
What you need:
- your university email address (the form tells you which ending it needs)
- your registration number
- your national ID number and phone number
- your year of study
- your SCC (everyone belongs to exactly one)
On the form you may also tick groups you belong to, such as the choir, if the commission has switched this on. Some groups let you in straight away; others ask their commissioners to approve you first.
Then confirm your email. We send you a link. Open it, and your account is verified. Check your spam folder if you can't find it.
Your password needs at least 8 characters, with upper and lower case letters, a number and a symbol.
Missed registration?
There are two ways in after the general registration has closed:
- Late registration. When an SCC or group election opens its own registration period, the registration page opens again. After you confirm your email, your SCC's (or group's) commissioners confirm you're a member. You'll get an email when you can sign in.
- At the voting desk. On election day, find a commissioner at the desk. They show a QR code: scan it with your phone camera, fill in the form, then show the commissioner your student ID. They confirm you on the spot and you can vote straight away. A commissioner can also type your details in for you.
There are no special ballots: everyone who votes has a normal account.
Am I verified?
Open Check my status (link at the bottom of every page, or scan the QR code at the desk). Enter your registration number and national ID number. You'll see whether you're registered, verified, and able to vote in the current election.
Both numbers are needed so nobody else can look you up.
Signing in
Sign in with your registration number (or your email, or your confirmed personal email) and your password.
- Forgot your password? Use Forgot password on the sign-in page with your university email or your personal email; we email you a link to choose a new one.
- "Account not verified"? Open the link in your registration email, or check your status (above).
- "Your commissioners still need to confirm you"? You registered late; wait for their email, or ask them at the desk.
- After several wrong passwords, sign-in pauses for a few minutes. Wait, then try again.
Your elections
After signing in you see your home page. If you belong to an SCC or group that has its own election this year, tabs appear at the top: General, then your SCC and groups. Tap a tab to switch elections. A small orange dot means that election is open right now (nominations or voting).
Each election has its own dates, rules and ballot. You only see the SCC and group elections you are a member of.
Nominations
When nominations are open, a card on your home page says so. Open Nominations.
Nominate someone
- Choose the position.
- Start typing the person's name and pick them from the list. (You don't need their registration number.) Only members who may stand for that position appear, for example only 2nd years for 2nd Year Rep.
- Add a short statement on why they'd be good, and send.
Depending on the election's rules:
- the person must accept the nomination before it goes further;
- it may need supporters: other members who second it;
- you may be limited to one nominee per position, and a person to one position;
- you may or may not be allowed to nominate yourself.
Can't find them? They may not be registered yet. Use Suggest someone who isn't registered yet: give their name and anything you know (registration number, year, course). The commission asks them to register and turns your suggestion into a nomination.
If you're nominated you get a notification. Open Nominations to accept (write a short manifesto and, if you like, add a photo for the ballot) or decline. You can withdraw later while nominations are open.
Support a nomination from the list on the same page, if the election needs supporters.
The commission reviews every nomination before it reaches the ballot, and tells you the outcome.
Once you're on the ballot (your nomination was approved, or the commission added you as a candidate), you get a notification, and both Home and Nominations show You're on the ballot. Until voting opens you can:
- add or replace your ballot photo: a passport-style photo (face and shoulders, facing the camera, plain background; JPEG or PNG up to 5 MB);
- edit your manifesto (20 to 3,000 characters).
What you save is what voters see. Once voting opens, nothing can change: ask the commission if something is wrong.
Voting
When voting opens, your home page shows the ballot. It goes one position at a time:
- Tap a candidate's card to choose them. Tap their photo to see it full size; tap the page icon to read their manifesto.
- Some positions let you choose more than one; the page tells you how many.
- Tap Next. You may skip a position.
- On Check your ballot, review your choices, then Submit ballot.
Your ballot is final once submitted and can't be changed. You vote once per election, so you can vote in the general election and again in your SCC or group election.
Who you vote for is secret. Commissioners see totals and who has voted, never who you chose.
Until voting opens, the candidate list stays hidden unless the commission decides to show it early.
Results
Open Results (bottom of every page). Pick an election from the list. They are grouped by year, and each one says whether it's the general election, an SCC or a group.
Elected marks the winners. Where members choose more than one (e.g. three committee members), everyone within those seats is elected; Tied means a tie decided the last seat.
Tap a candidate's name to see their elections over the years, e.g. 2nd Year Rep → Welfare Coordinator → Chairperson. Earlier years are matched by name, so someone with exactly the same name could appear too.
What you see depends on what the commission chose: winners only or all candidates, with or without vote counts and percentages, with or without photos. Some SCC and group results are shown to that group's members only, so sign in to see them.
Your profile
Tap the person icon at the top.
- Phone number: change it yourself.
- Photo: upload a new one.
- Password: change it (you need your current password).
- Personal email: your university email stops working after you graduate. Add a personal one (e.g. Gmail) and open the link we send to confirm it. Then you can sign in and reset your password with it, and the site's emails go there. Change or remove it any time.
- Name, registration number, ID number, email, year of study, SCC: these decide who can vote, so the commission checks any change. Use Something wrong? Request a correction, say what it should be, and why. You'll be told when they decide.
Groups
From your profile, open My groups.
- You see your SCC and the groups you belong to.
- Ask to join another group with a short message. Its commissioners approve you, or you join straight away if the group is open to everyone.
- Leave a group any time (you'd need to ask again to rejoin).
Being in a group lets you take part in its elections.
Inbox and messages
The bell at the top shows how many unread notifications you have. Open it to see:
- Notifications: news about your nominations, requests, groups and announcements from the commission. Opening one marks it read.
- Messages: write to the electoral commission, or to your SCC or group's commission. They reply in the same conversation and you get a notification (and an email). Use this for questions, problems with your account, or anything else.
Privacy
Your details are used only to run elections; see Data privacy at the bottom of every page. Never share your password. If you think someone has used your account, change your password and message the commission.
